Hello Chabot Community,
I miss seeing you each week and making music together. While the online experience is no replacement for our in person classes, I am working hard to provide you with some great resources for at home learning. Be sure to check this blog each week by for online learning resources and info for our zoom classes such as the song, dance or rhythmic theme of the week! I will also post by grade. You can click on your grade above to see a grade level stream.
I will host weekly grade level Zoom Music sessions for K-1, 2-3, 4-5 and 5th grade band. Zoom invites will be sent through the room parents network and through your classroom teacher. Even though these are combo classes, I will do my best to go over songs and skills we've learned this year in your class as well as new content. With the exception of 5th grade band, don’t worry about having the "right instruments" or materials for these classes. Everyone can sing, clap and pat. Don’t have rhythm sticks? How about chopsticks or a pair of wooden spoons? Don’t have a xylophone? Check out my next post for creative alternatives to a xylophone so that you can play along. 3rd graders with recorder and 4th graders with ukuleles will have the opportunity to use them. 4th and 5th graders who play guitar, bass or piano can play along during the 4/5 class. ***5th graders please note that the 4/5 class will focus more on the 4th grade material but you are still encouraged to participate. I am also offering a 5th grade band class. Mrs. McCarthy and Andre will send out their own resources for their classes and I may post them in the 5th grade section of this blog.
I know that learning and being at home at this time is very different. It is challenging for all of us. Be kind to your parents and guardians as they figure this all out and do their best to support your online learning. Importantly, everything I am providing for music is 100% optional. Use these resources if they interest you. Participate in the zoom classes as it works for you and your family.
I plan to continue to use this blog next year so we can share what we are doing in class with your families. Yes, we will get back to school.
